From vision to living room

The custom process

How it works

We don't sell furniture.
We build your furniture.

Every MDG piece begins with a conversation and ends with a room you couldn't have imagined without us. There are no catalogs, no compromises, and no off-the-shelf solutions. Just your vision, our craft, and 12 years of experience connecting the two.

01

The beginning

Inspiration & consultation

Everything begins with a conversation. Share your vision — images, sketches, Pinterest boards, or simply a feeling you want the room to have. Your dedicated MDG designer will listen before suggesting anything.

We offer a complimentary 45-minute discovery call, followed by a written design brief. No commitment required at this stage.

  • Free 45-minute design consultation (video or in-person)
  • Style and material questionnaire
  • Written design brief and preliminary sketches
  • Budget range discussion and timeline confirmation
02

The vision

Digital rendering & material selection

Once we understand your vision, our design team creates photorealistic 3D renders of your piece — placed inside your actual room. You'll see exactly how it will look before a single board is cut.

We mail a physical sample pack to your home: real wood swatches, lacquer chips, fabric samples, and hardware finishes. You choose with your hands, not a screen.

  • 2–3 photorealistic 3D renders with material options
  • Physical sample pack mailed to your home
  • Unlimited revisions until you're completely satisfied
  • Final design approval sign-off before production
  • 50% deposit due upon design approval
03

The craft

Handcrafted in Italy

Once approved, your piece enters our partner atelier in Tuscany — a family workshop with over three decades of experience crafting furniture for European residences, hotels, and private collections.

Every joint is hand-fitted. Every surface is hand-finished. This is not factory production — it is the same craft it has always been, applied to your specific design.

  • Production in our Tuscan partner atelier
  • Master craftsmen with 30+ years experience
  • Solid wood and premium materials throughout
  • Progress photography sent at midpoint
  • Typical production: 8–12 weeks
04

The arrival

White-glove delivery & installation

Your piece travels from Italy in custom-built protective crating, fully insured for its declared value. Our white-glove team handles customs clearance, last-mile delivery, and in-home installation.

We don't leave until the room is right. The remaining 50% balance is due before shipping. Your piece is guaranteed for ten years.

  • Custom protective crating for international freight
  • Full insurance coverage to declared value
  • Customs clearance handled by MDG
  • In-home installation by our specialist team
  • Post-installation walkthrough and care guide
  • 10-year craftsmanship guarantee

Common questions

What you might be wondering

Can I really get any dimensions I want? +
Yes — completely. Every MDG piece is built to your exact specifications. We have no standard sizes because no room is standard. During the consultation, we'll discuss your space dimensions and design the piece to fit perfectly.
How does the deposit and payment work? +
We take a 50% deposit upon design approval — before production begins. The remaining 50% is due before your piece ships from Italy. Payments are processed securely via Stripe. We accept all major cards and bank transfers.
What if I want to make changes after approving the design? +
Minor changes (material swaps, hardware adjustments) are sometimes possible in the early production stages — contact us immediately and we'll advise. Structural changes after production has begun may incur additional costs. This is why we invest heavily in the rendering and approval stage: to make sure you're completely certain before we begin.
How is the furniture shipped internationally? +
All pieces are shipped in custom-built protective wooden crates lined with foam padding, designed specifically for each piece. We work with specialist art-and-furniture freight partners and include full insurance to declared value. MDG handles all customs documentation and import duties on your behalf.
What does "white-glove delivery" actually mean? +
It means our specialist team delivers to your home, unpacks every piece, assembles anything that requires it, places the furniture in the room, and removes all packaging. We treat your home as carefully as the furniture. We don't leave until you're completely satisfied with the placement and condition.
Is the 10-year guarantee transferable if I sell the piece? +
Yes. The guarantee covers structural integrity and craftsmanship defects for ten years and is transferable to a new owner. It does not cover normal wear, deliberate damage, or modifications made outside MDG.
